The Sword of Justice – A Work in Progress

This is the journal dedicated to ideas based on my Dad's stories.
This is the journal dedicated to ideas based on my Dad’s stories.

I recently bought this cool journal dedicated entirely to story ideas based on my dad’s books. I want to be inspired to write in it so I wanted it to be very cool and a joy to write in. (and it is!)
Basically, I have just begun my journey on the rewriting process. Mine is slightly different than most as these are not my characters. One of the things that I am learning is that these characters must become mine. I need to take charge of the story and get it in order because there is no one else to do this. I want to be faithful to what my dad would have wanted. But at the same time, I’m feeling that I want to put some of my own thoughts in here. This is where the balancing act is.
There are some aspects of The Sword of Justice that are gentle and subtle but part of me wants to accentuate them and make them more bold. I’m worried that may ruin part of the story though. For example, the fact that I am dealing with a story that has a lot of magic users but frankly, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of magic use. That bothers me….a lot. I want to go more in depth with this society and go into how much magic there is and why. Also, I want a more defined magic system or magic systems. But what if in doing this I break the story?
I tell you what happens, I go back to the previous draft and start again. For now, I will listen to the wise words of my editor and just write.

Hey, make all those JPW MS’s your own and claim half ownership–who is there to care? I certainly wouldn’t!

Looking for a Great Book to Read? Look No Further!

To speak of Ardan the Grim is to speak of many things. One must tell of how he was the last in a line of men who had stood for far Tharid. A line descended from Ardan the Fair, who left Asbaln that there should be no quarrels with his brother, Randell of Avantir. Both of them being sons of the famous Guardian of the Sword of Avantir, Rorick. Wyrta the seer spoke to him in these words: "In the twentieth year, on spring's first day, seek a path to the West away. Go to the land of the Silver Hair, for thy fate does await thee there." Years after Rorick and Conel rode forth to free the land of Asbaln from the barbaric tribes, comes one man who will ride forth to save the kingdom and he will wear... The Crystal Crown.
