So, in the off chance that you are just meeting/landing on this site, let me explain a little bit about myself and what’s going on here.
So, my name is Beth Wagner, I am an editor, writer, comic creator and artist. This website is dedicated to my father and his writing, as well as talking about my journey as I publish the novels that he wasn’t able to in his lifetime.
I not only talk about his writing and announce my progress, I also talk about some of his interests as I remember that also interest me.
I am not him but I want to build the kind of community that he would have been able to build had he lived long enough to do so.
He currently has two novels which have been released to the ebook market. Railroad Rising is his first book and his newest release which is The Search for the Unicorns.
If you want sneakpeaks on what I’m doing then please subscribe to my newsletter!
On August 1st, The Search for the Unicorns will be launching. It’s exciting, I’m not going to lie. This will be my first time self-publishing a literary novel. I will be focussing on the process of getting it out and distributed.
I figured that I’d just do this little mini-update to let everyone know what’s going on and ….well…. Stuff!
Once I have more things I will be doing more posting. If you have subscribed to the newsletter, you were one of the lucky people to get to see a rough sketch of the cover!
That will be one of the next things that I hope to be posting here in the next week, so stay tuned!
Eep! Has it really been three months since my last post here? For shame! I would like to apologize for that. I’ve had some personal issues going on and then a convention to attend. But now that I’m back from the convention and I’ve wrapped up my other projects, I will be turning my attention to editing. Once I’ve finished the rewrites from this latest round of edits, exciting things will be happening so keep watching this website.
Holy cats! I haven’t posted here since November?!
Yikes! Sorry about that everyone!
You may now be asking what my plans are for the new year?
The answer to that is lots and lots of editing!
I’ll not only be updating my progress here but I will also be sharing interesting odds and ends with you as I go (although maybe not so much with this post)
Anyway, I will update soon!
This book just came in the mail! For those not familiar with this book it’s essentially the human side of archæology. The stories behind the finds. The Indiana Joneses before he was a thing. I highly recommend it! The best thing is that you can pick it up on Amazon for under a dollar (plus shipping and handling)!
So my main “editing” process at the moment is reading through the story while removing the extra spaces (which Scrivener will only remove some of) and adding hard returns. Yes it’s formatting problems but I’m feeling kind of like an archaeologist who is gently brushing the dirt away from the artifact.
I also feel a bit nostalgic and imagine what was going on in our lives and in the world when this was originally written (it’s signed 1984). That would make my Dad 4 going on 5 years younger than I am now. I think about what it was like for me at his age. What was his mindset at the time he was writing this story.
I think that’s why I really enjoy editing these stories.
I’m just popping in quick to say hi to everyone! Yes this blog is still going and yes I’m working on updating at least once a week.
Over the past weekend I finally managed to convert Who Would Destroy the Gods from it’s original file format (I’m not sure if it was written in Appleworks or Wordperfect) into Scrivener. I’m also manually fixing the format as when it was created there was no digital formatting and so everything had to be manually input (aka all spaces and hard returns).
As I’m doing this part of the editing, I’m making comments in the margin and correcting minor spelling mistakes. There are also some areas that I’m going to have to completely rewrite in order to maintain the flow. (For my family members who may be aghast at that thought, I will also have an unedited copy tucked away somewhere.) It’s going to be a long haul as I get further and further into the editing.
As always, I’ll keep you updated!
Wow! I am so sorry everyone! I’ve totally neglected this website! I’ve been super busy with my last two conventions of the year and getting the last of my 2016 comics ready to be posted on my other site. But now that those are all done, I’m taking a bit of a breather until after Christmas.
For those of you who are beta reading for me, I will likely not be sending anything out for a couple of weeks at the very least. There are some parts that I am working on that require a bit of rewriting, so please, bare with me.
My mom just found my Dad’s Cree Flashcards! (The package arrived last week)
Which means that I can begin warbling Cree while I try to learn the language! Very slowly because I can’t dedicate myself as much as my dad did.
With his flashcards, I feel like he is teaching me himself.
